With the ultimately beginning off Euro 2020 matches, you could question yourself how to play the tournament in the current crop of football simulator games, especially FIFA 21 and PES 2021 (or eFootball PES 2021 Season Update, to give Konami's game its full clunky title).
Naturally, there is always the impulse to boot a game and check if you can do better than the real-world players in your selected squad. (Normally, doing better than England's actual squad isn't that hard.)
So, if you want to play some Euro 2020 at home on your preferred PC or gaming console, should you install FIFA or PES this time around? Read all the critical front information!
Play FIFA-21 Euro 2020?
EA Sports has no rights to the UEFA Euro 2020 competition, thus you won't find an official way to play through Euros on FIFA 21. Briefly, Euros are not in FIFA 21.
Even if you become an international manager on the European scene during your first FIFA 21 career mode season, when the summer rolls around, it won't happen. We found this tough, being rather delighted to get the England post, only to find out later that there are no Euros in this skewed version of reality.
If you truly want to scratch FIFA 21's itch, the closest thing you can do is get into the Tournament mode and design a custom-made international tournament. You can't make the exact Euros because EA doesn't allow 24 teams in a tournament, but you can do something like 16 or 32 teams.
The FIFA Ultimate Team game mode has an event called 'Futball Festival' rolling out on Friday, June 11, at 6pm.
During this FUT event, we'd expect to see upgraded player cards in real-life Euros. It's not a complete Euros event, but as close as EA can get without official licensing.
But if you really want to play as a tournament through the Euros, you'd best play PES 2021. Keep reading, see why.
Play PES 2021 Euro 2020?
Yes, you can play through the Euro 2020 competition of PES 2021, Konami purchasing up the rights to reproduce the Euros in gaming form. Simply said, the euro's in PES 2021.
If you don't already have PES 2021, the game you need is eFootball PES 2021 Season Update. Full PC, PS4, and Xbox One game. On Nintendo Switch or Google Stadia.
Play with backward compatibility magic on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. The entire game is currently available on Xbox Game Pass, so if you're a subscription service subscriber, it's basically a freebie.
Is Europe 2020 mobile?
There's also a free PES 2021 version on mobile devices (iOS and Android), albeit the Euro 2020 stuff works significantly differently.
The mobile version of PES 2021 isn't the same as the console and PC version, with the entire mobile game focused on your ambition for a strong club squad (like FIFA Ultimate Team). Therefore, you can't play PES mobile through Euros in the conventional sense.
But a special event takes place in the mobile game's 'Matchday' mode, allowing you to play online using selected foreign team costumes. But you'll continue play with your usual group of players, regardless of country.
You may play through the Euros in the regular single-player mode on PES' console and PC edition, select a nation and try to shepherd them to glory. Below is the initial information you need.
Play Euro 2020 in PES 2021
Once on the PC or console version of the game, you may find that playing the Euros isn't immediately visible. If you're not discovering Euros mode, look here:
Click the 'Welcome!' football emblem on home screen. (Or 'Kick Off' if you played PES earlier)
Scroll down to where it says 'Cup' and click 'UEFA EURO 2020' on the list of playable events
Choose your team and you'll soon play through the tournament and test your mettle against Europe's biggest national teams. The teams are also automatically placed in the right groups under the official Euro 2020 schedule.
How to change international Euro 2020 squads
In Xbox Series X version, we've recently tested the Euros mode, and it looks to run well with some special animations and even the right match ball.
The only thing incorrect was the antiquated international squads with big-name players like Phil Foden absent in the England squad.
Konami should work to change the squads during the event, with a squad upgrading likely to occur once the real-life tournament enters the knockout stages. This modifies the default international squads, making it the right players.
The excellent thing is that if you want the correct players at your disposal, you can change the squads yourself. Before you start the competition, you must follow these steps:
Select 'Settings' Select 'Edit' from next menu.
Choose 'International Team Selection' from next option.
From there, you may select the country whose team you want to change and make sure all the right players, or just your favorites, are selected for international duty. Go ahead and start the tournament. Hopefully you'll soon lift the trophy!
