Aurobindo Ghosh was born to Krishna Dhun Ghosh and Swarnalata Devi in a Hindu family in Kolkata. He grew up in a westernised society, which his father had fostered in his house, despite being born into an impassioned Bengal family. He went to Cambridge to study.
